German Companies eye investment options in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, July 20, 2016(WIC) – The desire of German companies to invest in Ethiopia has been increasing over time, the head of German African Business Association said.

Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalgen held talks today with Stefan Liebing, Chairman of German African Business Association on ways of attracting more German investment to Ethiopia.

The chairman told reporters that Ethiopia has become among the priority destination for German investment. The companies want to invest in agriculture, manufacturing and automotive as well as infrastructure sectors.

Liebing stated that the meeting is a continuation of the discussion the premier held with German investors in Berlin with the aim to facilitate conditions for German companies to work together with the government and the private sector.

He indicated that the association is working with the government of Ethiopia to attract more German-based investment and to address challenges the investors may face.

Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalgen appreciated the interest German companies have shown and called on them to get involved in sectors that could contribute to Ethiopia’s economic transformation.

The premier stated that Ethiopia encourages German companies to particularly invest in the energy sector.

The two sides also discussed about participation of German companies in the First International Agro-Industry Investment Forum Ethiopia that will take place from 5-7 October, 2016 in Addis Ababa.
